The Barbour Clothing Company - Shopping - Fashion Style

Founded in the South Shields in Middlesborough, United Kingdom, J Barbour and Sons is a British 4th generation family owned clothing company who are re knowned for producing outdoor, waterproof clothing and are most commonly associated with the controversial sport of hunting, however they have close ties with horses and equestrian loving individuals.

The Barbour company was founded way back in 1894 by a gentleman by the name of John Barbour, who was born and raised in Galloway, Scotland and started selling oilskins in the small port of South Shields. The company is now well establishes and has a well respected reputation in the industry for producing high quality, hard wearing clothes and actually holds the Royal Warrants to supply "waterproof an protective clothing" to HM Queen Elizabeth II, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH The Prince of Wales.

As the company has grown, they have started to produce more lines as well as the traditional Barbour Waxed Jackets and the classic Barbour Stockman waxed coat, these include, sweaters, moleskin clothing, corduroy clothing, tattersall shirts and their latest edition "The Barbour Quilted Jacket." All Barbour garments are recognized for their rugged construction and appearance. Recently Barbour ventured into the "waterproof - Breathable" market with a great deal of success due to their own unique type of waterproof liners, cordura external fabric and polar fleece sweaters.

The company has recently tried to re brand and have aimed their clothing range to a younger, stylish market releasing stylish innovative designs yet still managing to keep that countryside feel. Their recent releases saw them receive rave reviews and it appears their new, younger, re branded Barbour Jackets is set to be a success.

The only jacket to be still be produced in Great Britain is the mainstay wax-cotton jackets, most of Barbour's other lines are now imported. Since the beginning of 2004 Lord James Percy, who is the younger brother of the Duke of Northumberland was heavily involved in the design and marketing of the company's flagship shooting clothing, which increased the popularity of the brand amongst the sports enthusiasts in the shooting world.
